2024 Elder Led Youth IQ Camp: Bridging generations through citizen science and filmmaking

July 23 - August 6

Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) means Inuit Knowledge in Inuktitut.

Elder Youth IQ Camp is an innovative three-year initiative designed to empower at-risk youth of Cambridge Bay by combining traditional knowledge with modern citizen science and multimedia storytelling techniques.

This project not only promises to bridge generational knowledge gaps but also integrate vital cultural wisdom into environmental education and media.

The core objective of Camp IQ is to preserve and share the traditional knowledge of Cambridge Bay’s Elders by engaging with the region’s at-risk youth.

Through the establishment of annual land-based camps, participants will learn to document IQ and environmental shifts using citizen science tools and filmmaking.

This initiative will facilitate a hands-on learning environment where traditional skills such as navigation, weather pattern recognition, and tool making are taught alongside modern technological skills in data collection and media production.

The project will initially focus on Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, but plans to expand to include participants from the broader Kitikmeot Region.
