Allison Cusick | Polar Ecologist
Allison is from Seattle, Washington, and now lives in California pursuing her Ph.D. at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. She studies phytoplankton in polar fjords and manages the citizen science project FjordPhyto, engaging travellers in cutting edge research understanding how melting glaciers influences the first level of life in the polar regions.
She first traveled to Antarctica’s Ross Sea in 2013 aboard an ice-breaker for 53-days and since 2017 has visited the Antarctic Peninsula every season. When not doing science, Allison travels, scuba dives, ultra-runs, cycles, camps, and drinks excellent coffee. Fun Fact – Allison ran a marathon in Antarctica, dressed as a banana. Allison holds a Master’s degree in Marine Biodiversity & Conservation and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.
