Join Hearts in the Ice Live from a Wilderness camp in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.
Elder Led Youth Camp IQ is taking place from July 30th – August 4th with 10 local Cambridge Bay youth joining camp lead Brandon Langan (Child & Youth Outreach Worker, Mental Health & Addictions, Cambridge Bay) and 4 local Elders including Harry and Mary Rose Maksagak.
Hearts in the Ice (HITI) is excited to announce the Elder-led Youth Survival Camp IQ, taking place July 30-early August 2024.
This groundbreaking initiative is to help bridge the gap between Elders and youth to help the transfer of invaluable traditional knowledge to the next generation. By aligning this transfer with practical training in citizen science tools and multimedia disciplines from the LIVE IT EARTH team, the project equips our youth with the skills, knowledge, and abilities to thrive in a changing environment.
The camp aims to foster leadership, and build confidence by integrating modern technology with the timeless wisdom of respected Elders and the 6 IQ Principles known as Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
On this live call we will learn from the Elders and youth on the importance of this camp, what sorts of fun activities they have planned and why traditional skill building and knowledge is so key to retaining cultural identity and a sense of pride and respect for the individual and the community.
Elders believe that the IQ Principles are timeless and of great value now in Inuit lives as they live in a challenging time of rapid change inside a post-colonial, bi-cultural world.
Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit’s ( IQ) Six Principles make up “…an ethical framework and detailed plan for having a good life. It is a way of thinking, connecting all aspects of life in a coherent way. The hope is to understand holistic thinking and the importance for Inuit of living in respectful relationships with all things.
